What is the Trussville Tax Day Tea Party?

boston-tea-party_e1

On December 16, 1773, a group of American colonists revolted against the British Empire’s “Tea Act”. Provoked by the British Governor, the colonists maintained that the British Empire had no authority to tax the American colonies without representation by local elected officials. Outraged by the taxes imposed by the British Parliament, dozens of colonists boarded three British tea ships in the Boston harbor and dumped chests containing approximately fifty tons of tea into the water. The event ignited passions on both sides of the Atlantic and is often regarded as one of the major milestones on the road to the American Revolution.

The Boston Tea Party was a physical protest against a government that was unresponsive to the will of the people it governed. The Trussville Tax Day Tea Party, along with the broader nationwide movement, represents a modern opportunity to once again ring the bell of Liberty.

Who should attend the event on April 15th?

All American citizens who cherish our heritage of rugged individualism, who believe that taxpayers are being over-taxed, and who recognize that government spending is out of control should feel compelled to join the fight.

A Brief History of Tea Party Protests:

[Excerpt taken from TaxDayTeaParty.com]

The Tea Party protests, in their current form, began in early 2009 when Rick Santelli, the On Air Editor for CNBC, set out on a rant to expose the bankrupt liberal agenda of the White House Administration and Congress. Specifically, the flawed “Stimulus Bill” and pork-filled budget.

During Rick’s rant, he called for a “Chicago tea Party” where advocates of the free-market system could join in a protest against out of control government spending.

A few days later, grassroots activists and average Joe Americans began organizing what would soon become the Nationwide Chicago Tea Party effort.

On February 27th, an estimated 30,000 Americans took to the street in 40+ cities accross the country in the first nationwide “Tea Party” protest.

Organizers of the February 27th events pledged to continue on with an even bigger and better protest to follow the first. With April 15th being “Tax Day”, it was decided to schedule the second round of Tea Party protests to ride alongside the tax deadline.

And with that, the “Tax Day Tea Party”, the second round of the Nationwide Tea Party protests, moved into reality.
