Calling all Patriots!

On Monday, June 15th, we’re having another Tea Party. But this one will be a bit different than the last one.

The April 15th event demonstrated the public outcry centered around government waste, over-taxation, and runaway entitlement programs. Simply put, the federal government has gotten completely out of control. Over the last two months, things have only gotten worse. With a struggling economy strangled by insane “green initiatives”, the government’s takeover of the largest American auto manufacturer, and an absolutely astounding budget deficit, the politicians have decided to knock it up a notch. They’re planning to begin the process of providing “universal” healthcare.

davis-copyLiberal progressives will deny that this is a step toward nationalization, but they have been working for decades to get a foot in the door of socialized medicine. Check out this YouTube clip of Ronald Reagan in 1961 if you think this effort is something new.

A government-run healthcare system will be like every other government-run endeavor– extremely expensive and poorly executed. We, the taxpayers, cannot afford another socialist program that all but ensures the re-election of these self-serving politicians.

The organizers of the Tea Parties across the state have gotten together to see what we can do to stop this. The decision was made to flood the local offices of our Senators and Congressmen with our disapproval of any type of healthcare nationalization. In our local area there are four primary politicians who will have a say in the upcoming legislation:  Senators Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions and Representatives Spencer Bachus and Artur Davis. Of the four, Davis is the only outspoken proponent of the pending legislation.

“I want to associate myself today with President Obama’s side of the argument. We do need to act. We do need transformative change on the way that healthcare functions,” states Davis. President Obama has made it clear that nationalized healthcare is high on his agenda, and Davis’ alignment with him could cost taxpayers billions.

On June 15th (the day after Flag Day) I want to encourage you to go by Artur Davis’ office and drop off a short note that expresses your opposition to any form of  “universal healthcare”. For extra impact, attach your note to a small American flag to remind Davis that we are Americans. Simply walk in, place the note & flag on the receptionist’s desk and walk out.

If you can’t make it downtown in person, send mail, faxes and emails with your message and a picture of an American flag. Make sure you participate in some way.

When you finish, send an email to flagdavis@trussvilleteaparty.com and report on how you participated.

At the same time on the same day, patriots like yourselves will be dropping off flags and notes across Alabama. Can you imagine the fear and confusion of Davis walking into his office and finding a 1000 flags on his desk. Our goal is to convince him that not only will he be losing these votes, but he will also be creating 1000 enemies who are committed to his defeat in any future elections. This is your chance to take action.

Davis is running for Governor in the next cycle. He will be looking for votes, and as a gubernatorial candidate voting for this issue could do him more harm than good. If enough of us step forward and declare that we will be silent no more, our politicians will have no choice but to listen.

Please, please remember that NOTHING should be attached to the flag itself!! That is against the Flag Code (and therefore, illegal). It is also a point of debate whether anything should be attached to the flag staff. It would be better to err on the side of caution and place a note and the flag - together, but not attached - on the desk.
“The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing.” It should be treated with the utmost respect.

Crystal makes an excellent point of clarification. The plan is NOT to physically attach anything to the actual flag itself. The idea was to attach a note around the base of the flag. How you do this is definitely up to you, but the last thing we want or intend to do is disrespect the flag.

    Thanks for making that point!

I need to make another point of clarification: the June 15th action is not an event with speakers, food or entertainment. It is a call to all citizens to come forward and make a statement to a local elected official about representing the will of the people. It is a personal action that involves hand-delivering a message to Davis’ office.

There is no schedule of events or start/end time (outside of the Congressman’s office hours 9AM-5PM). There will not be people standing around with signs either.

The Independence Day Tea Party events will be more similar to the April 15th events than the June 15th action.

I am writing my letter and will send it today.

  5. Great job Trussville Tea Party!! It’s crucial that we continue to take a stand and let our voices be heard. Professional and appropriate pressure on those that threaten our values and fiscal, responsible way of governing is necessary. Can we consider a public protest at ABC in Birmingham?
